New interview with Synyster Gates, recorded backstage at Download UK – June 8, 2018.
Guitar Interactive sat down with Synyster Gates backstage at Download Festival and discussed Avenged Sevenfold playing at Download Festival again, the Synyster Gates School, the AXE-Fx III and more. Watch the video below.
Synyster Gates sat down with Graspop Metal Meeting before their performance at the festival on June 22nd. He was asked about the early days of Avenged Sevenfold, his bucket list of bands he would like to play with and more.
What’s the most difficult solo that you ever recorded?
“I just had to relearn ’M.I.A.’ – we’re playing that song. It’s off [2005’s] ’City of Evil’ and it’s a really, really tough one. It was like learning a different guitar player’s techniques.
“I don’t even know what the fuck I was thinking there. That’s usually kind of how it is because you write from more of like a compositional standpoint. At least I try to with my solos.
“Even the fast ones – I’m trying to evoke some sort of emotion or whatever. So I don’t necessarily go to… They’re not my go-to licks. My fingers are just in odd places and the pick doesn’t seem to work. So yeah, that’s definitely a tough one.”
Synyster Gates and M. Shadows joined Jose Mangin for an episode of Zippo Encore’s “Dude’s Talking Shit In A Truck”. The episode was filmed on May 12th, 2018 – backstage at Northern Invasion.
